SoulFruit, a dish as cool as ice cream!

The children at the Krause Center were treated to a special presentation by SoulFruit, a popular rhythm and blues band from Houston. This cool ARTreach event is made possible thanks to The Cold Stone Creamery at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch.

The Krause Center provides therapy, an education, and a home to 60 children ages 11-17 with emotional and behavioral problems that often stem from a background of abuse and neglect. www.krausechildrenscenter.org. This is a residential treatment center managed by Lutheran Social Services.

Katy ARTreach partners with the community and Lutheran Social Services www.lsss.org to bring the inspiration of music art and dance to the children residing at the Krause Center.

SoulFruit performed recently at the Texas Holy Hip Hop Achievement Awards Ceremony in Houston (www.holyhiphopawards.com) and was featured in U-ZONE Magazine as one of Houston’s Best Kept Secrets with a smooth mix of neo soul, funk, hip hop, jazz and rock. The group has a 17 year performing history and four independently released albums with a new album soon to be released called The Return of the Way. www.soulfruit.net

When asked to discuss their success as a band which includes a tour that spans Los Angeles to Philadelphia “We are just passionate about translating who Christ is through our music and our lives.” says band member Toby Hill in his recent interview with Sketch the Journalist of U-ZONE. www.uzonemagazine.com

Katy ARTreach looks for opportunities to bring SoulFruit and other positive hip hop performers to Krause whenever it’s possible. SoulFruit sends a powerful message of hope. Through their words and music, they inspire young people to be positive, live their dreams, have faith and love others!

Katy ARTreach is a nonprofit organization that works to bring mentors and expressive art related programs to children who would not otherwise experience the arts.  Art, Music and Dance provide a powerful vehicle for self expression and are especially important to children who may be depressed, angry, or having difficulty coping with stress. ARTreach supports the educational, therapeutic and spiritual care of children in treatment centers.

Katy ARTreach serves hundreds of children at risk annually through partnerships with social service agencies and the school districts. To learn more, visit www.katyartreach.org. Katy can look forward to another opportunity to enjoy SoulFruit performing LIVE at the Katy ARTreach Gala being held at Don McGill Toyota of Katy on Sunday, October 21st. Tickets to the gala are available through the website or by calling 281-392-5341.

Katy ARTreach would like to thank The Cold Stone Creamery at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch for sponsoring this SoulFruit event for the Krause Children!
