Katy ARTreach in partnership with ARC of Katy
Katy ARTreach is developing an art and service program for ARC of Katy (Association of Retarded Citizens). This ARTreach program introduces the students of ARC to the visual arts and performing arts thorough weekly art lessons and demonstrations. The program includes professionally driven dance, drawing, painting and sculpting workshops for the students and includes field trips to local artist’s studios. ARTreach is incorporating volunteer service opportunities for the ARC students and junior high and high school students in the area.

Katy ARTreach is seeking a sponsor to help underwrite the costs of the program for an entire year. A Work of HEART
Created by ARC of Katy participants and donated to the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce for their gala auction. This Katy ARTreach project was dedicated to the Katy Family YMCA for their support for the ARC of Katy Day Program serving the intellectually and developmentally disabled. You can see this work of heart in the offices of Vista Corporation in La Centerra of Cinco Ranch.

BROOKWOOD COMMUNITY

Katy ARTreach hosted a Day of Caring at the Brookwood Community on Sunday Feb 18th and brought Tre9 (Bobby Herring) of Much Luv Records to entertain and inspire the citizens of Brookwood with Holy Hip Hop and RAP as part of their Sunday worship service.

Accompanying Tre9 was Bushwick Bill, of the internationally renowned Houston RAP group known as the Getto Boys. Bushwick provided testimony that supported his transition from an 80 style’s RAP recognized for promoting gang violence, drugs and hate, to his current RAP style that brings a positive message of hope and love.

The significance of Bushwick’s transition might have been lost on anyone in this audience not growing up listening to the RAP music of the 80’s, But Bushwick’s powerful message that promoted love and open minds, over drugs, violence and jewelry rang loud and clear.

Thank you to Tre 9 of URGEWORKS for sharing Bushwick’s message of hope with the citizens of Brookwood Community. Thank you also to National Charity League Azaleas Chapter for bringing new volunteers to the Brookwood community.

Katy ARTreach Day of Caring at the BROOKWOOD COMMUNITY

Katy ARTreach organizes Community Days of Caring at BROOKWOOD featuring the international visual performance group URGEWORKS!

The Brookwood Community www.brookwoodcommunity.org is an educational, residential, and entrepreneurial village for adults with functional disabilities. Katy ARTreach invited community volunteers to share an afternoon of companionship and friendship with the citizens of this delightful community!

The day includes an exciting visual performance by the dance group URGEWORKS and supports spiritual care and worship as URGEWORKS presented their positive message through hip-hop. URGEWORKS takes the citizens of Brookwood and our volunteers on an exciting journey that encourages individuality, self-confidence and self-esteem.
